Record levels of harmful micro plastics that threaten the health of wildlife has been found in the Arctic!Up to 12000 of the particles per litre of sea ice were found-three times more than previously recorded!Researchers say it shows how the pristine polar regions have been into a sink for pollutants. Micro beads have been blamed for threatening wildlife living in the Arctic, this includes walruses, polar bears, seals and whales .Dr.Peeken said sea ice binds this plastic litter for two to a maximum of 11 years-the ti,e it take floes form Siberia or N.America to reach the Arctic's Fram Strait where they melt.
Sources include the huge garbage patch in the pacific ocean ,while the high percentage of paint and nylon pieces pointed to intense shipping and fishing in parts of Arctic ocean.
A ban on the manufacture of products containing micro beads in the UK came into force in January, while a full ban on their sale becomes law in July.
